Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation

Aging, childbearing, or simply Mother Nature may cause some women to feel dissatisfied with their breast size. Women in the local area have a reputation for being beautiful, feminine, and always well put together. The Southern woman likes to look good, and part of that look is a fit, proportional physique. Breast augmentation has helped women from Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Southlake, and Grapevine, TX, enhance their self-confidence and their lives by creating the curves they have always wanted.

If you would like to learn more about breast augmentation, request a consultation with Dr. Michael Bogdan, a top board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in breast enhancement.

Breast Lift

Breast Lift

As we age, gravity takes its toll on our bodies in various ways. Unfortunately for women, the delicate breast tissue does not hold up as well to the effects of aging and gravity as they might like. In addition, the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy can accelerate the breakdown of breast tissue, leaving the breasts sagging and droopy. Dr. Michael Bogdan performs mastopexy, also known as breast lift, for women from Fort Worth, Frisco, and Plano, TX, and other communities near Grapevine, who want to restore their breasts to a more youthful position.

If you are interested in learning more about breast lift surgery, request a consultation with Dr. Michael Bogdan at his cosmetic surgery practice serving the DFW area.

Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift

Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift

Many women think they need a breast lift or breast augmentation to achieve their desired appearance. For some Fort Worth, Frisco, and Plano women, it is perfectly obvious which operation will achieve the result they desire – but for others the situation is not so clear. This page provides a little more information on these two surgeries and discusses when they can be combined for a more complete makeover.

When considering breast enhancement surgery, you need to determine if your breasts have any droop (which can result from weight fluctuations, breastfeeding, or even just genetics), and how “perky” you want to be after surgery. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I thought the video above would help patients understand what plastic surgeons consider breast droop (or “ptosis”) and the effect it has on the surgical result and/or the operative plan.

This video contains before-and-after pictures of patients who came to my office requesting breast augmentation. Most patients were good candidates for breast enhancement with implants, but a few were not. For the patients who were not suited for breast augmentation, we decided to perform some form of breast lift procedure instead. I hope that after viewing the video, you will have a better understanding of your breasts, and the surgical options available to you for breast enhancement.

Breast reduction

Breast reduction

If you live in Fort Worth, Frisco, or Plano, Texas, you’re likely to hear about Dr. Michael Bogdan if you research breast enhancement surgeons. Although we tend to hear more talk about breast augmentation, Dr. Bogdan also specializes in creating beautiful, natural-looking results from breast reduction surgery. Women with overly large breasts — a condition called macromastia — can greatly benefit from breast reduction surgery. The procedure has one of the highest rates of patient satisfaction of all plastic surgeries, due to the physical and psychological relief it provides to women with very large, heavy breasts. It is important to note that Dr. Bogdan’s practice is exclusively cosmetic. As such, he does NOT participate in any insurance programs, and cannot work with insurance companies to cover a breast reduction.

No amount of online research can answer all of your questions as completely as an appointment with Dr. Bogdan. If you are interested in learning more about breast reduction surgery, request a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Bogdan using the online form. Or call his office at (817) 442-1236 to schedule an appointment.

Mommy Makeover

Mommy Makeover

Having children is one of life’s most joyous experiences. But the physical toll taken on women’s bodies by pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can undermine confidence in their bodies. You can restore that confidence with a suite of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures called a Mommy Makeover. In Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, Southlake, and other cities near Grapevine, TX, Dr. Michael Bogdan is among the top choices of moms looking for an experienced and talented board-certified plastic surgeon.

What Is a Mommy Makeover?

Because pregnancy and breastfeeding change the shape of the breasts and the abdomen, many women end up with lax skin, a tummy bulge, stretched-out breasts and nipples, and pockets of fat. Mommy Makeover surgery addresses these concerns in a single operation that combines multiple procedures, typically breast enhancement and body contouring. During your Mommy Makeover consultation, Dr. Bogdan will talk with you about your concerns and cosmetic goals and create a customized surgical plan that includes the procedures that can create the results you want. He is a Mommy Makeover specialist who has performed thousands of breast enhancement and body contouring procedures during his career.

Tummy tuck

Tummy tuck

Many people are unhappy with the loose skin, lax muscles, and isolated fat deposits in their midsection. Some people simply inherit this body type, and others develop these problems after pregnancy or weight loss. Unfortunately, diet and exercise provide only limited improvement for excess skin and stubborn pockets of fat in this area, which is why so many people come to Dr. Michael Bogdan’s practice for abdominoplasty, often called a tummy tuck, from Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, Southlake, and Grapevine, TX.

What Is a Tummy Tuck?

A tummy tuck is a very effective surgical procedure that slims and tightens the abdominal area. Almost everyone who has a sagging stomach can benefit from an abdominoplasty, but it is particularly popular among women who have had multiple pregnancies and patients who have experienced significant weight loss, such as post-bariatric patients. The three main components of a tummy tuck are:

  • Tightening of the abdominal muscles
  • Removal of excess skin
  • Removal of excess fat in the midsection
Liposuction

Liposuction

In Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, Southlake, and other communities near Grapevine, TX, women and men take better care of themselves than ever before. Looking and feeling good is important, and nutrition and fitness have become key components of our lifestyles. Unfortunately, many people find that despite diet and exercise, certain parts of the body retain resistant, unsightly pockets of fat. Even people who are in very good physical shape sometimes need a little help achieving an attractive physique, and a liposuction procedure board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Bogdan can be just the help they need.

This may explain why liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery procedures in the United States. New technology has made liposuction safer and more effective than ever for the removal of difficult fat deposits. Dr. Michael Bogdan performs advanced liposuction techniques, normally choosing power-assisted liposuction (PAL) for his patients.

What Is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure that removes specific areas of fat using suction. It is not a weight loss procedure.

Post-Bariatric Plastic Surgery

Post-Bariatric Plastic Surgery

Bariatric surgery has helped many obese men and women from Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, and other nearby Texas communities to transform their lives and their bodies through significant weight loss. Bariatric patients work hard to re-shape their bodies through diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, as the body shrinks down to its new, healthier size, the skin does not necessarily shrink along with it. Most post-bariatric patients are left with excess skin which detracts from their hard-earned new physique.

Due to the increased popularity of bariatric surgery and other options to achieve significant weight loss, Dr. Bogdan has seen a rise in the demand for plastic surgery for people who want to remove areas of excess skin. Men and women who have achieved such inspiring results in their quest to look and feel better often find that loose, sagging skin prevents them from truly enjoying their new and improved bodies. Surgical removal of this excess skin can make you look better, and feel better as well.

If you would like to learn more about post-bariatric procedures, request a consultation with Dr. Michael Bogdan, a Dallas-Fort Worth plastic surgeon specializing in post-bariatric plastic surgery.

Body Lift

Body Lift

The term “Body Lift” by itself refers to an operation that improves the appearance of the lower torso by addressing loose skin on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. Other names used for the operation include Circumferential Abdominoplasty and Belt Lipectomy. It is really a combination of procedures (a tummy tuck, lateral thigh lift, and buttock lift) that is most appropriate for patients who have undergone massive weight loss. Patients we see from Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, and surrounding areas who have carried a significant amount of weight for most of their life and then lost it (either through diet and exercise or with surgical assistance) are often left with loose sagging skin throughout their body. Depending on the areas affected, these patients may desire a Lower Body Lift, an Upper Body Lift (breast lift combined with an arm lift procedure), or a Total Body Lift (upper and lower body lift as well as a facelift). The more extensive makeover procedures are staged to reduce surgical risk. Patients are encouraged to first address the regions that bother them the most.

Lower Body Lift

Most often, the Lower Body Lift is the first operation chosen by weight loss patients on their road to full rejuvenation. The procedure often has the most noticeable overall change in body shape and is performed in one trip to the operating room. The procedure takes 4.5 to 6 hours to perform and can be done on an outpatient basis. (All patients have the option of staying in the hospital for one night if there is any concern regarding at-home care, or if their medical conditions dictate.) The operation is performed under general anesthesia and starts in the prone position (lying on the stomach) to address the flanks and buttocks. The excess skin and underlying fat are removed, the buttocks and posterior-lateral thighs are lifted, and this smooths the back and buttock region. Patients are then repositioned to the supine position (lying on the back) and an extended abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is performed. All of the excess skin from the waist to the ribcage is elevated, stretched to smooth the contour, and the excess is removed. A new belly button is created during this portion of the surgery. During skin elevation, the abdominal wall is exposed and the muscular components of the abdominal wall are tightened to strengthen the core musculature. The resultant scar from a Lower Body Lift travels along the torso at the level that a belt is normally worn, hence another name for the operation: Belt Lipectomy.

Facelift

Facelift

Women and men from Fort Worth, Dallas, Plano, Frisco, and surrounding areas seeking a facelift at our Grapevine practice often worry that their faces make them look older than they feel on the inside. Another concern is that deep facial creases and sagging skin can make them appear unhappy or tired, which is not the image they want to convey.

In social interactions, your face is one of the first things people will notice. Since first impressions can be lasting, it is unfortunate that the face is also one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Over the years, the facial skin deteriorates due to the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life. Dr. Michael Bogdan specializes in modern facelift techniques that correct these concerns and restore a more youthful, rested appearance to the face.

Neck Lift

Neck Lift

Dr. Michael Bogdan’s neck lift patients from Fort Worth, Frisco, and Plano, TX, and surrounding communities often complain about a double chin, jowls, or a “turkey wattle.” This is because as we get older, the skin on the neck becomes thin, lax, and wrinkled, and stubborn fat may accumulate beneath the chin. Sometimes significant weight loss causes or accelerates the same issues. A neck lift in our Grapevine practice corrects these concerns by removing the excess skin, tightening the muscles, and improving the definition in the neck, chin, and jawline.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?

Depending on genetic factors, facial and neck aging can begin in our 30s, though typically it is first noted in our 40s or 50s. Some people are not ready for a full facelift because the skin on the upper face is still firm and smooth. Skin often begins to lose elasticity in the neck before the face and can cause unwanted sagging and wrinkles. When the neck area doesn’t match the upper face, a neck lift can be a great solution.

In general, good candidates for a neck lift are healthy, nonsmoking women and men who have a positive outlook and realistic expectations from their surgery.

rhinoplasty

rhinoplasty

These days, it seems like we all know of someone who has had a “nose job.” When celebrities undergo this popular procedure, it usually makes headlines in the tabloids. That is because even subtle changes in the shape of the nose can have a dramatic impact on a person’s appearance — a fact that Dr. Bogdan’s rhinoplasty patients from Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, and other cities near Grapevine, TX, have seen firsthand.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

As the nose is one of the most prominent features of the face, it has a significant influence on our overall countenance. If you are unhappy with your nose, it is something that affects you every time you look in the mirror. Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is a relatively common plastic surgery procedure, and one of the oldest. In fact, modern cosmetic rhinoplasty has been around for over 100 years.

Women and men often choose this procedure for any combination of the following improvements:

  • Reducing or increasing the size of the nose
  • Changing the shape of the tip or the bridge
  • Narrowing the span of the nostrils
  • Changing the angle between the nose and upper lip

To help you decide exactly what changes you would like to have made, Dr. Bogdan likes to utilize 3D computer imaging to allow you to visualize potential outcomes. Dr. Bogdan uses Canfield Scientific’s VECTRA M3 imager and Face Sculptor software to assist with a consultation at his Grapevine office.

Eyelid surgery

Eyelid surgery

Many men and women are bothered by droopy or hooded eyelids, either due to aging, heredity, or both. The same is true of the wrinkles, puffiness and fat bulges that can develop in the lower eyelids. These conditions can be particularly troublesome, since the eyes are such a critical part of our expressions and our interactions with others. Patients often complain of looking tired or unhappy despite feeling otherwise.

In Grapevine, Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, and surrounding areas, eyelid surgery is frequently the most cost-effective means of correcting this “tired” look and improving overall facial appearance. Sometimes drooping eyebrows will exacerbate the sagging skin of the upper eyelid, necessitating a forehead lift for full rejuvenation of the eye area.

Forehead Lift

Forehead Lift

Do your friends and loved ones comment that you look tired or grumpy, even when you feel happy and refreshed? This is something Dr. Bogdan hears during many consultations with patients who come in seeking facial rejuvenation. The upper face, which is so crucial to our facial expression, is one of the first areas to succumb to the signs of aging, but it is also an area that can be substantially improved through a procedure known as brow or forehead lift. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Bogdan performs brow lift surgery for Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, and Grapevine, Texas, women and men to correct the deep, horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines, and drooping eyelids that contribute to a fatigued or even stern expression.

The brow lift is a procedure that is designed to raise the eyebrows into a more youthful position. This effectively “opens up” the eyes and relieves that fatigued, scowling look. Plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Bogdan specializes in facial procedures such as the brow lift, and also performs rejuvenation procedures such as rhinoplasty and facelift. He has trained extensively with some of the leaders in aesthetic plastic surgery, and he has acquired advanced techniques which he uses in all of his facial plastic surgery procedures.

If you are interested in undergoing a brow lift, request a consultation with Dr. Michael Bogdan, a plastic surgeon specializing in facial aesthetic surgery.

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)

Otoplasty (Ear Surgery)

Otoplasty simply means “ear surgery.” The most common form of ear surgery that Dr. Bogdan performs in Grapevine, Texas, is a “Set-Back” otoplasty. He performs this procedure to help patients from Fort Worth, Frisco, Plano, and surrounding areas reduce a prominent ear — whether it be protruding from an abnormally shaped cartilage or from an overgrowth of cartilage. Although an otoplasty procedure is most often performed at a young age, it can be performed later in life so long as the patient is healthy. Ear growth is nearly complete by age 6, so this is typically the earliest that an otoplasty is performed. Having the procedure done at a young age is beneficial from both a surgical and emotional standpoint. When performing surgery at this age, the ear cartilage is very pliable and more easily shaped than later in life. At around age 6, children become more self aware of their body image, and correction of the prominent ear helps avoid the negative self-esteem issues that can result from teasing.

If you would like more information about otoplasty surgery, request a consultation with Dr. Michael Bogdan, a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in plastic surgery in the Fort Worth and Dallas area.

Facial Implants (Chin)

Facial Implants (Chin)

Facial implants are used for a variety of reasons. In younger patients, they may be used to bring certain features into balance with the rest of the face. In older patients, they may be utilized to restore a more youthful contour to the face, especially in conjunction with a facelift. Dr. Michael Bogdan specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery of the face. He can use chin facial implants at his Grapevine, TX, practice, serving Fort Worth, Plano, Frisco, and beyond, to improve and enhance your facial features, and make you feel better about your appearance.

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport

BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport

Chances are that you’ve heard about the benefits of neuromodulators (BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport). With more than 3 million treatments administered last year alone, BOTOX is the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the United States. Clearly, people all around you are experiencing the benefits of neuromodulator treatment, and perhaps you are wondering if this wrinkle treatment is right for you.

One of the concerns we hear from women interested in BOTOX or Dysport in Dallas and Fort Worth is the fear that the face will appear “frozen” or stiff after treatment. When performed by a certified injector, natural and beautiful results can be achieved. No one should be able to tell that you have had BOTOX, but people will notice that you look rested and refreshed.

When facial muscles contract, the skin wrinkles. As we age, these wrinkles become deeper and more prominent. Neuromodulators can reduce or even eliminate wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing the small muscles that contract to produce small lines on the face. Both BOTOX and Dysport consist of purified forms of the botulinum toxin, which is safe and effective in very small doses when injected around small muscles.

Treatment will be individualized, but usually involves a small number of injections in the regions to be addressed. Both BOTOX and Dysport are great options for men and women who are beginning to show signs of aging, but are not ready for cosmetic surgery.

dermal fillers

dermal fillers

Non-surgical injectable fillers, such as Restylane and JUVEDERM, are extremely popular in Dallas, Fort Worth, and surrounding Texas communities. Dermal fillers can be an important element to your comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation. Many of the women who come to 2301 Plastic Surgery get fillers to smooth the fine lines and wrinkles that make them look older than they feel. Others want to plump up the lips or cheeks for a more youthful appearance.

Good Candidates for Dermal Fillers

Aging’s effects accumulate over time, eventually resulting in deep wrinkles, sagging skin, and discoloration. But long before you get to that point, the subtle signs of aging begin to appear. Dermal fillers are an excellent option if you’re concerned about looking older, but you are not ready for surgical procedures such as a facelift. Injectables treat firmly established facial wrinkles or larger grooves, such as the nasolabial folds, by restoring youthful volume to the face and adding structure as well.

These injectable treatments don’t last as long as facial plastic surgery, but they are significantly less expensive and have a shorter downtime for recovery.

Light-Based Therapy

Light-Based Therapy

Lasers / BBL / IPL

Light-based energy devices can make a huge change in your skin with minimal downtime in certain cases. It all depends on what you are trying to treat! For very specific indications, LASERs (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) can be used to precisely treat regions to achieve the desired result. The 2940 nm Erbium laser in the Sciton Joule platform can be used to perform precise nano-peels of the skin, assist with creating low-downtime resurfacing using the HALO treatment, or perform surgical depth resurfacing to treat deep lines. The 1064 nm Neodymium laser is useful for hair removal for patients of all skin colors, due to the very specific targeting of the laser. When treating more generalized skin conditions, such as age spots or acne, filtered wavelengths of light are more effective for treatment modalities. Lumenis M22 IPL system can treat dyschromia, rosacea, telangiectasia, cherry angiomas, and acne.
