Hernia Surgery

Hernia Surgery

Hernia repair is the most common operation performed worldwide, with over 1 million repairs performed yearly in the United States alone. There are many types of hernias and they can occur at numerous anatomical sites including several different areas of the abdominal wall (umbilical, inguinal, and ventral just to name a few), to areas of the diaphragm, to hernias related to internal anatomy (e.g. internal hernia after gastric bypass surgery).

In addition to anatomic site variation, hernias range from simple first-time occurrences to those that have re-occurred once or several times and thus require a more extensive analysis of why this may have happened and subsequent planning for risk-factor reduction through an individualized plan for subsequent repair.

Non-surgical procedures offer the most effective non-invasive and reversible meansfor losing weight. These procedures involve reducing the amount of space in your stomach to make you feel full. It encourages you to eat less at each meal, helping you lose up to 35 pounds within six months. You can repeat this procedure as often as your doctor recommends. At Advanced Surgical & Bariatrics of NJ, PA, your overall health drives the best decisions for weight loss. Call the nearest office to schedule a consultation with a non-surgical weight loss specialist.

One of the safest, most effective non-surgical weight loss techniques involves placing a saline-filled silicone balloon in your stomach. Most people opt for this procedure because they’ve tried dieting and exercising without seeing any significant results.

What is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)?

Gastroesophageal reflux disease, shortened to the common term GERD, is a condition that causes stomach acid to flow backward, out of your stomach, through your esophagus to your throat. Eventually, the backwash irritates your esophageal lining, which causes pain and burning sensations. A patient diagnosed with GERD, presents with a weakened sphincter muscle, which fails to close tightly, thereby allowing, food and stomach acids to flow back into the esophagus (reflux). The esophageal lining can become inflamed or irritated due to these acids, causing the burning chest pain, sour taste, or cough that patients suffer from.

For many people, acid reflux happens only once in a while, caused by particular foods. These instances of GERD cause no permanent damage. Others, however, have to search for the best GERD doctor near me. In New York City, northern New Jersey, and eastern Pennsylvania, top GERD doctors are available at Advanced Surgical & Bariatrics of NJ, PA.

Esophageal Diseases and Disorders

Esophageal Diseases and Disorders

The esophagus is the tube that carries food and liquids from the mouth into the stomach. The wall of the esophagus is composed of layers of muscle that propel food to the stomach by rhythmic waves of contractions called peristalsis. There are muscle rings at each end of the esophagus, – called sphincters. These sphincters open to allow food to move forward and then close to prevent food and acid from moving backward, helping prevent acid reflux and aspiration or choking.

Upon swallowing, the upper esophageal sphincter opens and the esophageal muscles contract to push food downward. The lower esophageal sphincter opens temporarily to allow food to pass into the stomach. Then the sphincter closes to prevent food and stomach acid from flowing back up the esophagus.

Robotic Surgery

Robotic Surgery

The advent of technology allowing for minimally invasive surgical procedures has opened a new door into the medical future. We no longer have to fear the presence and pain of large surgical scars as we used to for so many procedures. The invention of particularly effective methods of robotized minimally-invasive surgery such as the “da Vinci” surgical system has revolutionized both the general and bariatric surgery industry. Now more-so than any time before, we are able to help create healthier, brighter futures for our patients with far less scarring and permanent marking.**

What is The “da Vinci” System

The “da Vinci” surgical system enables surgeons to perform delicate and complex operations through a few small “keyhole” incisions. The “da Vinci” system is powered through advanced robotic technology which allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be scaled, filtered, and translated into precise movements of the EndoWrist instruments working inside the patient’s body. It essentially enables the surgeon to manipulate these surgical instruments with a precision unattainable by human hands. One of the instruments which gives the surgeons unparalleled control is a laparoscope. The laparoscope is a thin tube with a tiny camera and light at the end. The camera sends images to a video monitor in the operating room to guide doctors during surgery. With this added measure of insight, robotic surgery has been revolutionized.
