3D Mammography

What is 3D Mammography?

Digital breast tomosynthesis (tomo), also known as 3D Mammography, is a revolutionary new screening and diagnostic breast imaging tool to improve the early detection of breast cancer. During the 3D part of the exam, an x-ray arm sweeps over the breast, taking multiple images in seconds. Images are displayed as a series of thin slices that can be viewed by our radiologists as individual images or in a dynamic interactive animation.

Open MRI

Our Hitachi Altaire is a High Field Open MRI so it provides excellent image quality in a very open and non-claustrophobic environment. Our equipment was recently upgraded with enhanced software, to improve image quality.

What is an Open MRI?

Open MRIs are just like they sound. They are open, while still using Magnets to take images of the inside of your body. Instead of an enclosed capsule, the open MRI uses a magnet top and bottom and is open on all four sides. These decrease the risk of claustrophobia and panic attacks exponentially and allows patients of all shapes and sizes to be able to make use of an MRI to accurately diagnose their problems.

What is an Ultrasound?

Ultrasound (or “sonography”) is a procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to show what is inside your body.

x-ray

x-ray

Our X ray equipment is computerized with a moving table. All types of bone studies, chest and abdominal X rays, head and neck, and spine exams can be performed.

What is a routine X ray?

The X-ray has been called one of the most significant advances in all of medical history. It is used in many different ways in medical diagnosis. An x-ray image is produced when a small amount of radiation passes through the body and strikes a sheet of sensitive film placed on the other side of the body. The ability of X rays to penetrate tissues and bones varies according to the tissue’s composition and mass. Bone, which contains calcium, does not let much radiation through and results in white images on the X ray film. The lungs, which are filled with air, allowing nearly all X rays to strike the film resulting in a black image.

DEXA

DEXA

DEXA (Dual Emission Xray Absorptiometry) is a bone density test. It can evaluate the density of the bones in the lumbar spine and the hip. It can also evaluate the forearm if there is a reason why one of the other areas cannot be checked, such as metal rods in the spine, or a hip replacement in the hip. As we get older osteoporosis becomes more common, as the framework of the skeleton becomes thinner, and therefore less strong. There are several medicines available for osteoporosis, and bone density testing enables doctors to decide if a patient is a candidate for treatment with these medicines.
