SEALANTS

SEALANTS

Dental sealants are an effective way to protect teeth against cavities. Sealants are a thin plastic coating that is “painted” on the enamel of the teeth, usually on the chewing surfaces of the molars. Sealants act as a barrier against plaque and acids that cause cavities and protect the fine grooves of the tooth that are even too small for a toothbrush to reach. Both children and adults can benefit from dental sealants.

FILLINGS

FILLINGS

Dental fillings are most often used to restore the appearance and function of teeth that have been damaged by cavities. They can also be used to repair small chips or cracks in teeth. Restoring a tooth with a filling can repair both the tooth’s strength and shape. There are several filling materials available and Dr. George will help you determine the best choice for you based on your individual needs.

Mouth Ulcers

Mouth Ulcers

An ulcer of the mouth, or canker sore, is a small, painful lesion that develops in the mouth or along the gum line. It can be uncomfortable to eat, drink, and talk. Mouth ulcers are more common in women, adolescents, and those with a family history of the condition. Mouth ulcers aren't contagious, and they usually go away within one to two weeks. Dr. George can help if your canker sore is large or extremely painful, or if it does not heal in a timely manner. Call our office right away if you have a long-lasting or extremely painful mouth ulcer.

Dry Mouth

Dry Mouth

In order to determine the cause of your dry mouth, Dr. George will likely review your medical history, look at all medications you're taking, including over-the-counter medications, and examine your mouth. It may be necessary for you to undergo blood tests, salivary gland imaging scans, or tests that measure how much saliva you produce to determine what is causing your dry mouth. Dr. George may prescribe a medication, a rinse, or other remedies to stimulate saliva production if you have severe dry mouth.

laser dentistry

laser dentistry

In comparison with drills and other non-laser tools, laser dentistry could offer more comfortable treatment for a number of dental procedures involving hard or soft tissue. The laser produces a narrow, focused beam of light. When laser light hits tissue, it produces a reaction that allows it to remove or shape the tissue. Lasers can increase the efficiency, effectiveness, and comfort of dental treatments. Laser dentistry has been approved as a treatment option by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for several dental conditions.

Depending on the treatment, dental professionals use hard tissue lasers or soft tissue lasers. Some patients may require both types of lasers. Lasers for hard tissue can cut through tooth structure. A specific mineral in teeth absorbs the wavelengths in combination with water. Lasers are typically used to shape or prepare teeth for composite bonding, to repair worn-down dental fillings, or to remove some tooth structure. Lasers can be absorbed through water and hemoglobin in soft tissue. The protein hemoglobin is found in red blood cells. Lasers are used to treat periodontitis, including killing bacteria and promoting tissue regeneration. When they penetrate the tissue, soft tissue lasers seal nerve endings and blood vessels, promoting a faster healing process.

Regular Exams

A dental exam is a checkup for your teeth and gums. A dental exam should be performed every six months for both children and adults. Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial. Leaving problems untreated can lead to serious problems that can be painful. By examining your teeth, you can detect tooth decay, gum disease, and other oral health problems early, when they are easier to treat. The exams are also used to educate people about how to care for their teeth and gums.

Dental X-Rays

Dentists need to know as much as possible about a patient's teeth and gums. Utilizing a fast and safe x-ray is the first step that the dentist takes when treating a patient. In order to give your dentist a complete picture, dental X-rays are essential. Dentists use them to examine teeth, roots, jaw placement, and the composition of your facial bones. With x-rays, your dentist will be able to identify and treat dental problems, like cavities, before they become too serious or advanced.

Teeth Cleanings

It is important to have regular dental cleanings every six months so your dentist can remove hardened plaque and stains on your teeth that are difficult to remove with normal brushing and flossing. These deposits can only be removed by specialized dental equipment. There is never a wrong time to come in for a dental cleaning. No matter how long it has been since you last had a dental cleaning, it's never too late to start caring for your teeth. Furthermore, if you haven't seen the hygienist for some time, now is the time to get back into a regular treatment schedule.

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation Dentistry

Sedation dentistry is a field of dentistry that uses medication to help patients relax during dental procedures. Sedation dentistry can be used for a variety of procedures, from simple teeth cleanings to more complex procedures such as root canals. Sedation dentistry is often used for patients who have dental anxiety or who have difficulty getting numb for dental procedures. There are three main types of sedation used in dentistry: oral sedation, IV sedation, and nitrous oxide sedation. Oral sedation is taken in pill form an hour before the procedure is scheduled to begin. IV sedation is given through a small needle in the arm and takes effect more quickly than oral sedation. Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, is inhaled through a small mask that is placed over the nose during the procedure. Sedation dentistry can help make your dental experience more comfortable by helping you feel relaxed and less anxious. Schedule a consultation with Dr. George to talk about your sedation options.

Sleep Apnea Care

Sleep Apnea Care

The most common form of sleep apnea is known as obstructive sleep apnea or OSA. Obstructive sleep apnea is characterized by repeated lapses in breathing throughout the night, caused when the tongue, other soft tissues of the mouth and throat, and lower jaw relaxes in such a way that results in your airway becoming partially blocked as you sleep. This prevents air from reaching the lungs and often causes sleep apnea sufferers to partially awaken – sometimes as many as hundreds of times a night! Another one of sleep apnea’s symptoms is excessive snoring. In addition to leaving you drowsy and unrested even after a full night’s sleep, sleep apnea can lead to larger-scale health problems, such as high blood pressure, type II diabetes, and depression.

The first step in treating sleep apnea is getting a diagnosis, which must come from a physician. If you have symptoms or signs of sleep apnea, you should consider getting evaluated by a sleep disorder specialist. Most often your doctor will schedule an overnight appointment at a sleep center.

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening

Teeth naturally lose their brightness over time. Whether the cause is from the foods we enjoy, medication, and lifestyle habits, it’s unavoidable. Stains and discoloration is one of the most common reasons our patients are self-conscious of their smile. With our professional teeth whitening treatment, your teeth can get up to 10 shades lighter in a single visit.

Teeth Whitening is also one of the most cost-effective cosmetic dental treatments available for someone who wants a quick and easy way to improve their smile. We provide two types of affordable teeth whitening including custom take-home whitening trays and in-office treatments.

BONDING

BONDING

Tooth bonding is ideal for patients who have discolored, cracked, chipped, stained, misshapen, or gaps between teeth. Cosmetic bonding is an affordable and versatile procedure that involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin material to the surface of a tooth and molding it to match the surrounding teeth. A special curing light is then used to harden the resin and the tooth is further shaped and polished, resulting in a truly natural-looking smile. Just the same as the rest of your teeth, bonded teeth should be brushed and flossed daily and professionally cleaned at the dental office twice per year. Not only can bonding improve the health and structure of your teeth, it’s the ideal solution for fixing small cosmetic imperfections in your smile.

Veneers

Veneers

Dental veneers are customized, thin porcelain “shells” that are permanently bonded to the front surface of a tooth. The thin ceramic layers essentially replace part of the tooth enamel, masking minor cosmetic imperfections of teeth that are in overall good health, but need just a little help in restoring in the color, shape, size, or position of the teeth. Veneers can be used to address a wide range of your dental issues including: alignment issues and gaps, deep stains, cosmetic imperfections, or misshapen teeth.

Clear Aligner Therapy

Clear Aligner Therapy

Clear Aligners, or invisible braces, consist of a set of clear, removable trays that are custom-fitted to your teeth. The aligners are worn for 20-22 hours a day and are changed as your teeth shift. If clear aligners are right for you, Dr. George will assess your specific case. A clear aligner may be able to correct some bite discrepancies, but not all. The tray material of clear aligners is more fragile than metal braces, but they are more aesthetically pleasing. The cost may also be higher than traditional metal braces.

Same-Day Crowns

Same-Day Crowns

Dental crowns can transform your smile and hide a lot of dental issues, including gaps, cracks, discoloration, and crooked teeth.

In the past, getting a dental crown would often take several weeks and require multiple appointments for you to get your new smile, but at Sugarloaf Smiles, we can create most crowns same-day!

CEREC® Technology

CEREC® Technology

Computer-aided restorations (inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns) reduce time in the dental chair.

At Sugarloaf Smiles in Duluth, GA, we are proud to offer CEREC® Same-Day Crowns. This service allows patients to receive a dental crown in one visit, using 3D imaging and CAD/CAM technology. The procedure is completed quickly and easily and results in a perfect fit for the patient's teeth. We believe that this service offers many benefits to our patients, including convenience, affordability, and quality. The advantages of this state-of-the art, clinically proven latest advance in cosmetic dentistry are:

  • Less time needed—same day restoration appointments are available!
  • The pure ceramic porcelain used is stronger than normal porcelain which is built in layers, so CEREC® restorations are less likely to ever break, and this lets us provide you with a dental restoration that actually strengthens your tooth.
  • The stronger material allows us to conserve tooth structure. Often a partial coverage restoration (inlay or onlay) can be completed instead of needing a full crown.
  • It allows us to save as much healthy tooth tissue as possible.
  • The porcelain materials we use match the composition of natural tooth structure, and are chemically bonded to your tooth.
  • There is no metal in a CEREC® restoration.
  • They can be custom stained in our office to match your other teeth.
  • Messy impressions can be avoided.
Root Canal Dental Therapy

Root Canal Dental Therapy

When you experience an infection or trauma to a tooth, we may recommend a root canal. We will be able to treat your condition right here in our Duluth, GA dental office.

Many of our patients express fear or concern about pain when it comes to having a root canal. However, the symptoms you feel are often the most painful part of the procedure. Because root canals eliminate your infection and promote healing, you should begin to improve soon after your treatment.

Save Your Natural Teeth and Get Relief for Toothaches

If you have a toothache that won't go away, it may be time to find a dentist who does root canals in Duluth, GA. Sugarloaf Smiles can help you get relief for your tooth aches, and help you discern why you're hurting. Sometimes the cause of the pain is a tooth that is infected and needs a root canal.

Though many jokes have been told about root canals, modern dental technology is very effective and root canals are a relatively painless way to clear out a tooth infection and save your natural tooth or teeth, while also helping rid you of your tooth pain.
Dr. George Zohrabyan, DMD wants to help you keep your natural teeth, whenever it is possible, and he specializes in oral surgery, including root canals.

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal Therapy

A solid foundation for healthy teeth begins with strong, healthy gums. Gingivitis is a form of gum disease that results in gums that are red, puffy, and bleed easily. It can often be reversed with daily brushing and flossing, along with regular dental visits. However, if gingivitis is left untreated it can progress into the more serious form of gum disease, periodontal disease. Periodontal disease leads to the deterioration of the bone and gums, which can result in tooth loss. Periodontitis causes bacteria to build up between the teeth and gums that can lead to a higher risk of developing other health issues, including stroke, ulcers, diabetes, arthritis, respiratory disease, osteoporosis, and heart disease.
