Dr. Kunnumpurath is a 1992 graduate of Mahatma Gandhi University School of Medical Education, Kottayam, India. Following medical school, she completed a year of rotating clinical internship in internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN and public health. Dr. Kunnumpurath completed a three-year residency in internal medicine at United Hospital, Newark, N.J., in 1996 and began practice in New York State the following year. She is Board-Certified in internal medicine.
In 1998, she and her husband, Francis, a Certified Public Accountant, started SpectraMedi Transcription Services, Syracuse. The company provides medical transcription and billing services to hospitals, clinics and practices nationwide. As the business grew, Dr. Kunnumpurath took leave of clinical practice to become the head of quality control for transcription. While helping to manage the business, she became a Certified Medical Coder as “part of an ongoing endeavor to understand every aspect of health care beyond the patient-physician relationship.”
After nearly 18 years working on the business side of medicine and having raised two daughters, Dr. Kunnumpurath decided to return to medical practice earlier this year and enrolled in the Physician Refresher/Re-Entry Program at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pa.
Outside of practice, Dr. Kunnumpurath is a hobby seamstress and enjoys making dresses, traveling and spending time outdoors.
