Dr. Marta Canfield MD

I’ve known since high school biology class that I wanted to be a doctor. I graduated from Odessa-Montour Central School in 1998, and attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, graduating in 2002 with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Psychology. Then, I made my way to the University at Buffalo for medical school and residency.

I graduated medical school with awards in humanism and research in family medicine. In residency, I received an Outstanding Service Award each year and was chief resident. I graduated in 2010.After years of hard work and strenuous studying, I began practicing as a professional physician in 2010. My medical knowledge, combined with an ongoing curiosity to learn about the natural treatments and alternative modalities, has allowed me to gain a loyal following of patients in this region.

I also realized that conventional medicine was not helping me reach my goals of helping patients: Large patient panels make visits impersonal and rushed; it’s hard to see your doctor for a sick visit or talk to your doctor in between appointments; and insurance companies dictate what we can and can't do.

It has all led me to this: Integrative family medicine delivered in a direct primary care model.One of my goals for my practice is to offer fitness classes as part of the membership for my patients. I was a gymnast from the age of 5, so fitness is a very important part of my life.

In fact, one of my hobbies is teaching partner dancing with my husband Paul. We met when we drew each other as partners in a dance competition. We compete nationally in West Coast Swing, a specific partner dance that is our passion. We also love to spend time playing and being active with our two sons, Corbin and Harper.
