FAQs

Will my insurance cover my child’s diagnostic testing?

If any diagnostic testing is needed for your child such as labs, imaging studies, or referral to a specialist, we will take a copy of your insurance information and will submit this information along with the lab specimen or order.

Some specialty tests require stool or urine samples, which can be completed and sent from the comfort of your home.

Typically, advanced diagnostic testing is not be covered with by insurance. For children, we want to be as sensitive as possible while still being thorough and diligent to identifying the root cause of their symptoms. We will work with you to create the best plan to provide the necessary answers!

Can I use my insurance for my child’s appointment?

Functional Medicine directly challenges the way modern, traditional medicine treats patients. Insurance companies dictate how much time or what course of action is "best" for patients. By not being contractually bound to insurance companies, our functional medicine providers are able to provide better quality care; the kind of care you and your child deserve!

We are committed to providing the highest quality of care while also being conscience of the cost. We can provide documentation for you to file directly with your insurance for reimbursement for many of the services we offer.

At Kare Health & Wellness, we prioritize the QUALITY of care for your child.

Do you offer flu shots or other adolescent immunizations?

We do not offer immunizations, boosters or flu shots in the office.

Our providers can talk with you about options and help you make the best choice for you and your family!

At Kare Health & Wellness, we respect vaccination decisions as a private, personal choice. We help families make informed decisions on healthcare and encourage you to be involved in your child's care. Our goal is to ensure you are well-informed and supported in whatever choice you feel is best for your child.

Do you prescribe medications?

Yes, our practitioners are licensed in the state of Missouri to write for prescription medications. It is important to understand, however, that prescription medications are not the answer to all health issues.

After your initial visit, we may recommend a combination of natural and prescription therapies to fit your child’s health needs.

Why are appointment times longer than with our pediatrician?

Our appointment times on average are between 30-60 minutes. These longer appointment times allow us to spend the time we feel is required to deliver exceptional care to your child.

We spend this time thoroughly discussing your child’s history and symptoms, their diet, exercise, stress, sleep, home and school environment, emotional well-being, and your concerns as a parent.

Gathering detailed information allows us to create an individualized approach to treatment.

Are there treatments that are unique to your office?

Our office uses functional medicine labs to evaluate a targeted concern, such as your child’s gut, genetics, nutritional status, or toxic load.

While functional medicine labs are not mandatory for treatment, they do assist us in gathering helpful data that we otherwise will not have.

Our office also incorporates the use of botanicals or supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, and stress-management techniques.

What is the difference between your office and a traditional pediatric office?

Our approach combines complementary medicine and the best of conventional medicine. Our focus is on patient-centered care, promoting health and not just the absence of disease.

By listening to the patient and learning their unique story, the practitioner tailors treatments to address your child’s needs.

This approach addresses the whole child. Not just the symptoms that brought you to the doctor. It also encourages the immune system to heal naturally.

Do you charge a cancellation fee?

When scheduling your first visit, credit card information will be required to reserve your appointment. If for some reason you choose not to keep your scheduled initial appointment, and fail to notify us within 24 business hours, a non-refundable cancellation fee of $100 will be charged to your card on file.

Existing patients are subject to a No-Show/Late Cancel fee of $50 if they fail to notify us within 24 hours of their cancellation.

Infusion patients are subject to a $45 waste fee for same day cancellations.

Do you sell supplements or nutritional vitamins?

Absolutely. We've taken the time to find, try and vet supplements companies who are committed to excellence. We currently carry over 25 different companies on our shelves and have over 250 products available at any time in office.

We regularly recommend nutritional supplements to our patients and guests in addition to lifestyle changes. Our goal is to use natural supplements as a way fuel our bodies and provide important vitamins and nutrients in addition to the foods we choose.

Products are available to both guests and patients in office. Online orders can be placed through our personalized Fullscript website.

Will you give me a copy of my lab results?

Your results are reviewed with you in-person (or utilizing our telemedicine option). Our providers will work with you to explain, in detail, your results, what they mean and how they are related to how you are feeling.

At this review appointment, we will create a personalized plan that fits your needs and lifestyle best. This can include lifestyle changes, supplements, or prescription medications. We may also recommend utilizing one or more of the in-office services as part of your treatment plan, such as sauna, massage or IV therapy.

This lab review appointment is one of the main benefits of working with our functional medicine providers. We want to ensure that you understand what your results say about your life and your health. This cooperative approach allows you to stay in the driver's seat!

Following your review, you'll work with your provider to determine a timeline of your subsequent follow up visits.

Do you draw lab work in office?

Yes! Our skilled nurses will collect lab samples in office. We use several contracted lab companies to analyze blood samples. Some specialty tests require stool or urine samples, which can be completed and sent from the comfort of your home!

Various labs have different payment options that may include billing to insurance. We will provide you with a complete cost analysis for labs before we send.

How long should I expect my first visit to be?

Functional Medicine is rooted in relationship and investigation. The 5-10 traditional medicine minutes are simply not enough for us to dive into the root of your health needs.

Adequate time allows us to provide quality care while not being rushed to get you in and out of the office. On average, our initial appointment times are about 90 minutes long, or more depending on the complexity of your case- this time estimate does include time for a lab draw.

Follow up appointments can be between 30-60 minutes and are based on complexity.

Our front office staff can provide you specific information regarding your upcoming visit!

Do you offer flu shots or pediatric/adolescent immunizations?

We do not offer immunizations, boosters or flu shots in the office.

Our providers can talk with you about options and help you make the best choice for you and your family!

Can you be my Primary Care Provider?

Yes, we actually call it "Integrative Wellness."
We have a specific process in order for you to become a Primary Care Patient due to the limited number of Primary Care openings we have available.

If you do not have a PCP at the time of your first appointment we recommend you establish with a PCP or we can discuss with you whether we would be a good option to serve as your PCP.

We do not bill insurance for our wellness services. Payment would be due at the time of service.

All diagnostic testing, labs, and specialist visits would still be covered according to your insurance plan.

Are your medical providers naturopaths?

No. While naturopathic medicine and Functional Medicine have similar goals, they are very different.

While anyone can obtain a naturopathic certification through online courses, our medical staff is traditionally trained (ANP-C, FNP-C) and medically certified. Our medical providers choose to practice Functional Medicine because of the patient empowerment and the transformation power we have seen countless times.

We also employ a team of highly skilled Medical Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses to offer you healthcare in Springfield Missouri you can trust.

Will insurance cover my visit?

Functional Medicine directly challenges the way modern, traditional medicine treats patients. Insurance companies dictate how much time or what course of action is "best" for patients. Insurance companies simply do not cover Functional Medicine services,  alternative therapies, or many of the practical wellness services our patients need.

We are committed to providing the highest quality of care while also being conscience of the cost. We can provide documentation for you to file directly with your insurance for reimbursement for many of the services we offer.
