Education

Dr. Julius Bonello received his undergraduate degree from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. He completed his doctorate and postgraduate studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

After finishing his internship at University of Minnesota Hospitals, he continued his residency there followed by residency at University of Vermont Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.

Prior to joining Peoria Surgical Group in 2003, he had 24 years experience in treating patients.

Specializing in Colon and Rectal Surgery

As a colorectal surgeon, Dr. Bonello has expertise in evaluating and treating anal fissures, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, colon cancer and other colon and rectal disorders.

He is a member of the Midwest Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.

He is a faculty member at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and is on staff at all three Peoria Hospitals.

Personal

In addition to more than 25 years of experience in Colon and Rectal Surgery, Dr. Bonello is also an expert in Civil War Medicine. His numerous lectures on the history of medicine have been presented nationally, and he is currently editing a book on the subject. He lives in Peoria with his wife and eight children.
